I was trying to add a new hard drive and set up ftp functionality but can't create the new volume. I am able to log in through the web gui, have no alerts but when I click on most links or tabs the page is blank. I can see my System Info but nothing under Reporting, Settings, Account, or Storage. I still get the links in the left menu and can see all the created volumes and users if I expand the different categories.

When trying to create the new volume I select Create Volume, type in a name, select the drive, select ZFS, and then click Add Volume. I get an error "This Field is required" above the Member disks and error "You must select a filesystem" above Filesystem type. The selection I make for the file system is also cleared. Also if I click the Cancel button it does the same; I have to click the "x" in order to close the window. Have rebooted it multiple times and no change.

I set this up about 2 years ago so forgive me because I don't have all the specs. I haven't had any issues until now. I added a drive last fall with no issue. The hardware is a development motherboard for Kontron modules and don't have any specifics for it.

Build: FreeNAS 8.0.4 RELEASE p2 x86
OS Version: FreeBSD 8.2 RELEASE p7
Processor: Intel i5 520 2.40Ghz
RAM: 4GB on board
Drives (all ZFS): 2x WD Black 1TB raid?; 1x WD Red 3TB

I use the raided drives for the important stuff and the stand alone drive for media that can be replaced. I also backup the raided drives online.

I appreciate any help and know enough to get myself into trouble.

Well, you are like 14 versions behind, so I'd update first...

I thought of that but can't make a backup of my config file and forgot to make one last time I added a drive. Am I able to copy it from the OS flash drive if I plug it into a standard PC?

Not unless your OS can read UFS partitions(Hint: That means not Windows, Linux, or MacOSX.)

Also take a look at the hardware requirements.. FreeNAS needed 6GB of RAM back then to be stable. Now it requires 8GB of RAM. So you have a bit of an uphill battle for updating too.

What about software like UFS Explorer or ufs2tools?

I caught that the latest release requires 8GB. Not able to assemble something to meet the new hardware requirements at this time. Might just need to leave it as is and limp along until I can build something.

Thanks.
