Hi there,

Fairly new to FreeNAS and built a home-made solution:

DAS - Lenovo 70F10000UX
  • 12 X 4TB WD Red
HBA - SAS9200-8E
Server - Supermicro 5017R-MF
  • MB: Super X9SRi-F
  • RAM: 64GB ECC RDIMM
  • CPU: Xeon E5-1620 v2
  • Mirrored boot devices
Here's the problem. I have a Brother MFC-L2740DW, which uses FTP if I want to scan something to a PDF to a local storage location.

I followed this guide to set it up:
http://thesolving.com/server-room/how-to-configure-a-ftp-server-on-freenas/

However, when I attempt to log in, I keep getting no such file.

If I get rid of the chroot, I get permission denied

The user is FTP_User, group FTP, and they are the user/group for the /mnt/tank1/FTP

The FTP_User's home directory is /mnt/tank1/FTP/FTP_User

I cannot get FTP to authenticate, no matter what I do :/ (Besides for allowing anyone/everyone access the FTP folder...)

I found these that seem to reference this problem, but no solution:
https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/5098
https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/1092
https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/ad-auth-for-ftp-on-8-3-0.9615/

What is weird, a friend of mine who also recently built out a FreeNAS instance was able to follow that same guide and it worked fine for him :/

I was wondering if anyone else had similar issues, and if so, any solution?

Does he have the same scanner model?

If you use 'Always chroot' you have to specify a home dir for the user to chroot on. Does FTP_User have it?

if you set a root dir for the ftp service, does FTP_User have permision to read/write to that dir?

Thanks for responding!

I was using Filezilla to attempt an authentication, so was he. He could get it to connect, I keep getting those permission problems.

Yes, FTP_User does have a home directory set
