Hi all,

I got a ubuntu fileserver, and would like to upgrade to freeNAS.

Server config:
Ubuntu 11
2x 2,5" 160gb
3x 3,5" 1,5tb

2,5" = raid 1
/ 20gb
/home 140gb

3,5" = raid 5
/storage 3,0tb

Is there a way to install freenas on the 2,5 raid 1? (ofcourse with a format).
And after installation import the raid 5 volume?

Thanks!

The only file systems that FreeNAS supports, that I know of, are UFS and ZFS. Ubuntu would likely not be using that.

Copy off your data, blast the machine, then use ZFS. You should be able to replicate your setup using FreeNAS 8.0-RELEASE and ZFS for the file system. I would also recommend getting a 2GB or more USB-stick, as you can use that to boot from (provided your system supports boot-from-usb)...FreeNAS consumes an entire drive for installation and the rest of the volume is not availble for storage...and only needs 2GB as of 8.0.1-BETA3. 1GB for 8.0-RELEASE-8.0.1-BETA2.
