I don't even know what details it asking for? which username and password is it referring to?
The username and password of the account on TrueNAS. (Such as benjamin)

One other question, should I do a static IP? whats the best way to choose an IP or to see what ip's are available on the network?
You most definitely can set (and use) a static IP address in TrueNAS.

The issue is that it appears it was using cached credentials for the hostname and IP (from previous attempts?) I've had a similar issue where I accidentally typed in the wrong username/password, and Windows kept trying to use this indefinitely until I either rebooted the computer, or used a combination of "net use" and killing explorer.exe. Otherwise, any attempt to connect to the SMB share would be met with "Windows cannot access, blah blah blah."

When we created a host entry (i.e, mynas.home) we "tricked" Windows into thinking that you're trying to connect to a "different" server. That's why it prompted you for a username and password. ("Different address? Must be a different server!") Windows is dumb.

Its awesome the NAS is now connected but I'm still getting this error code 0x80004005

Does anything here look off to you?

Just for sanity check, can you enable "Allow Guest Access" on the share and see if you can access it as guest?

Hi, thanks so much for your message

Im still getting this, only now its saying device not functioning but fortunately the other error is gone. Guest does not seem to be working

What I'm wondering, is it possible it have some windows setting preventing it from connecting to the drive?

Additional question, is it worth doing a fresh install of truenas? is i do, is it possible to keep the data on my two HDD's currently in there? I presently have no way of acessing

That's bonkers. Guest isn't even supposed to ask for your credentials. It's supposed to just let you in (at least on my machine).
My guess is either you borked your TrueNAS install or the ACL's.

Could be worth doing if nothing else works. If you're not doing anything complicated like jails and VM's etc and just doing simple shares, the config is pretty trivial to regenerate.

Yeah, your data pool is independent of your config stuff and will be preserved. You will just have to re-import it on your new install.

Do you have another PC to try to access your TrueNAS SMB shares?

If not, do you know how to boot into a live Pop!_OS USB? If you can access your shares from Pop!_OS (or any Linux distro) without any problem, then it could point towards a configuration problem or error in Windows.

The reason I mention Pop!_OS is because it has a simplified "Connect to server" tool in its file browser. (I suggest you use the TrueNAS IP address for such a test, not "TRUENAS" or the hostname.) On the left pane, click on "Other locations" and then you will see "Connect to server" on the bottom.

ad9d06.webp

Enter it in the form of: smb://192.168.1.107/Bigdata

Then enter your TrueNAS username (benjamin) and password.

Even though you're booting off a live USB (nothing is being installed), you can still open up a web browser to visit the TrueNAS Forums. But there's no guarantee someone will reply while you're still booted into the live session.

Instead of? Not at all. It was a suggestion to use a different client to try to connect to your TrueNAS SMB shares. (Only as a test from a live USB.)

You should be able to do it via the GUI.

Did a clean install and set everything up again. Followed tutorials to the fine details and I'm still getting the same result.

I did notice this though. On the monitor attached to truenas it is now saying PRP OFFET INVALID. Have you seen this before?

Im honestly starting to think this is a windows settings issue and not a truenas issue

I got this
Get-SmbShareAccess : No MSFT_SMBShare objects found with property 'Name' equal to 'tools'. Verify the value of the
property and retry.

You can boot directly from the USB into a "live session". No need to install anything. (I'm referring to your client PC, not your server!)

This is where you can find the option to connect to an SMB share:

Enter it in the format of something like this: smb://192.168.1.107/Bigdata

Cool, I'm going to try this now.

Also, what do you make of this? It's displaying on the server monitor. I think it's logging a new error every time I attempt to connect. I am not familiar with this
