Truenas keeps reporting smart errors

Had a couple of drives from my whs 2011 that worked ok with no errors so wiped them and did a full smart scan with no errors so fitted to my self build truenas and right away getting smart errors, so pulled them and fitted a couple of new ironwolfs which I smart scanned before fitting and they came out error free, so set up and set the smart task to scan them overnight and this morning errors, so does truenas scan differently from Windows or what, any help please .

2 x 4 Gb iron wolfs

so iron wolfs passed all the seatools tests and i reconnected with different sata cables into different ports and have run a couple of short tests and they seem fine will do a long test tonight

So every drive you have has failed a long test. Please post full output for each drive of

smartctl -a /dev/adaX where X= 0, 1, 2

Thanks will do as you ask, I should also say I did a chkdsk /f/r/x on them when the first errors appeared with passes

Good. Still one report to come - ada1.

The results of SMART tests are stored on the individual drive and cannot be reset or erased. You can see in the listing that you had Interrupted test on both drives, so neither completed. I believe that it's likely that the two failed tests seen in TrueNAS are those "failed" tests.

Before wrapping this up, I suggest you run a long test on each drive with this command in shell: smartctl - t long /dev/daX. You may run all three tests concurrently. For each drive a completion time will be advised. After that time get your three reports to post here smartctl -a /dev/adaX

Also I suggest that you set up routine SMART testing for at least the Ironwolf data drives Turn on the Service (Services>SMART) and for each drive (Storage>Disks>Edit Disk>Enable SMART). Also set up email alerting of SMART test issues at System>Alert Settings (in the Hardware section). You need to have set up the email address for the root account for that to work.

Look forward to seeing the long test results.

I had the exact same issue (sorry to jump in here), 2TB WD GREENS working perfectly in my Synology NAS, Win10 machine, I wiped them, moved them to my new TRUENAS system and SMART detected errors and machine kept rebooting. Took drives out, reformatted, zero'ed out entire drive, no issues at all. It seems that TRUENAS is finding something it shouldn't be.

I had a few greens from my whs 2011 with drive pool and stable it scanner ran for years with no errors moved over to TrueNAS and all drives had errors

Hmm...Smart either detects an issue or it doesn't. Why would it behave differently on different systems ? I believe my drives were perfectly fine with no issues, yet Truenas essentially rejects them with smart errors.
