TrueNAS - CPU vs Cores

Hi,

I currently have an old FreeNAS system and am just getting ready to replace it.

Previously, to get good SMB performance, it was advised to have less cores at a higher CPU speed than more slower cores.
Is that still true in the new TrueNAS release?

I have 2 Supermicro boards already, just need to decide the ‘best’ one to repurpose for NAS.

Board 1 is X10SDV: 8 core 16 thread D-1540 @2ghz. 32gb RDIMMs. Onboard x552 10gbe
Board 2 is X11SSH with E3-1260L v5, 4 core 8 thread @ 2.9ghz. 32gb UDIMMs. Intel X550 10gbe PCIe card.

Storage is going to be 8 x 2tb SATA SSD, 9207-8i HBA. (Reflashed HP H220 in IT mode)

I already have all this kit in my home lab and can repurpose as needed, and would rather not buy anything else!

Appreciate any thoughts which combo would be best for SMB performance using SSD RAIDZ2 over 10gbe point to point link.

Many thanks

@anodos
Plans for multithreaded SAMBA? or a roadmap if it's on the plan?
