So I have an HP DL380p Gen8 that I've had running truenas for a couple years now. This morning I wake up and it had gone down. Looking at the console it boots to the truenas boot and then starts the boot but halts. I booted from media and did an install as the OS is on an SDCard in the box. Saved the volumes/database etc. Reboot and it comes up and stops in the same spot. Hooking up a monitor or on ilo i can't scroll back to get any information about what the issue is. All i get is what I have below. Any pointers on how to troubleshoot this. It's the iSCSI storage to my lab so not the end of the world if all is lost but would save a lot of time if I can figure this out and get it back online.

^ This is likely your problem.

Sounds like you were able to save the config.

1. Connect proper SSD media, i.e. not a SD card, flash drive, etc. If you have no other SATA ports/bays and USB is your only option, an option is a SSD in a USB enclosure.
2. Perform a clean install on new proper media
3. Restore config

I do have a backup from less than a month ago, I'll find a drive and see what I can't make work here. Is there a way using hte installer to backup the current config? Not much if anything would have changed since my last backup as i've not added or changed anything but figure it can't hurt to at least try?

Only if you are performing an upgrade (as opposed to clean install) onto your existing working boot-pool, it will migrate your existing config.

There might be a backup if your system dataset was pointing to your storage pool.

Well all good I have my backups. The issue is, I put a new drive in. Booted and installed to it just fine. Its on the LSI card I have in the box. The issue is when I try to boot it must be choosing a different drive as it says "this is a TrueNAS data drive. I'm searching all over on how to get this to change so it tries to boot the right drive but so far no luck.

That would be a BIOS setting to pick the boot drive, unless the mobo BIOS will not let you pick a drive on the LSI card.

I think that is it. I'm going to try the internal controller with that drive. Just had to buy a cable for it.
