Test email behaviour - please comment

I am a very noob user (3 evenings with a new FreenasMini) working his way around the Console, GUI and IPMI setup. I finally got the test email to send me a message (eventually figured out that I had not hit save after editing the Global Configuration page) but find that it seems it is necessary to wait "some time" - maybe 30 seconds - between successive test mail send attempts to avoid an error, and that pressing "Save" is required (?) prior to each send attempt. And even then not every attempt to send is successful.

Is this normal?

That doesn't sound normal. When you get the error, can you tell us what it is?

Thanks for the response. This morning I made three attempts and got the same behavior - "Your test email could not be sent: [Errno 8] hostname or servname provided, or not known". Then I updated top latest FreeNAS version.
Just tried after your request - 5 attempts in short order, no failures - I'm counting that as a win.
I've lurked here for a year or so before taking the plunge - I know this is a great resource. Thank you once again for your interest. I'm sure you'll be seeing me again as this is such very unfamiliar territory for me!
