Tell me why this proposed setup is a dreadful idea...

I'm looking for feedback on the proposed setup I'm considering migrating to. I'm using existing hardware (QNAP flashed with TrueNAS) and I can't see a way to get another disk into the second (1U) server, otherwise I'd have two. My brain dump is as follows:
  • QNAP can take multiple drives so 3 disks should give failure protection and speed for the desktop clients to use for back up (timemachine/etc.). Given it's low RAM I don't propose to run an workloads.
  • The 'stuff' from the QNAP can be rsync'd for back up to the external HDD in the second machine (open to the suggestion of connecting that directly to the QNAP)
  • Given the 'spare' spec on the second machine that can run plex and Home Assistant plugins and then back up the media to the same USB drive.
  • Everything on the USB drive is also replicated to cloud so I have 3 copies across 3 media types in 2 locations.
Thoughts, comments, feedback gratefully received.
