Hi,

I have two different volumes on my box:

Pool - 6x 6TB WD reds
FNPool - 6x 2TB mixed drives

Which ports are better to plug things into? Does it make a difference?

Thanks,
Rich

I am back & now have that additional 6TB (x2) drives.

I have Pool - which is the 6 drives on ADA0, ADA1, ADA2, ADA3, ADA4, ADA5
I also have FNPool - which is the 6 Drives on: DA0, DA1, DA2, DA3, DA6, DA7

I am planning on destroying "Pool" to add the two other 6TB drives - DA4, DA5.

So again - am I better off putting FNPool - which is a total of 6 drives on ADA0-ADA5 and then moving all of "Pool" onto DA0-DA7 or does it not make any difference in terms of performance, relaiablity or any other item.

Thanks,
Rich

You can put your new pool on any combination of SATA ports. I have a 7 disk raidz3 pool on the SM SL7 MB with boot and 3 data disks on the chipset SATA ports and 4 data disks on the integrated LSI SATA ports.

Nitpick: The LSI controller has SAS ports, not SATA ports.

That said, use any combination you wish. The LSI SAS 2308 has more bandwidth to the CPU available, but it's not something you should be concerned with when using mechanical drives.
