I tried doing a new build and ran into the dreaded Mount root Error 2 problems with FreeNAS 9.3.1. I heard some people got past the xhci problems by installing 10.2 alphas so I tried that. Now it mount roots successfully. Right after that it shows the network starting and shows active. Then states -

usage: /etc/rc.d/power_profile [0x00|0x01]
Starting Dispatcher.

I boot up my laptop with the stick and it does the same thing. After waiting a long time at "starting dispatcher." the screen is filled with errors

/usr/local/sbin/dispatcherctl:166: Resourcewarning: unclosed <socket.socket fd=41, family=AddressFamily.AF_UNIX, type=SocketKind.SOCK_STREAM, proto=0>
c.connect(server)

In fd=41, the number incremented each error up to 41.

Any ideas what might be going on and how to get past this?

You don't really want 10.x yet, at least not before it hits BETA status.

Does the system not have any USB2 ports?

It does. When I initially tried to install on the new build, I was getting the mountroot error 19. I disabled fast boot and xhci but was still getting the error. I installed 9.3.1.9 onto the drive on the laptop, then put it on the new build, and got mountroot error 2. All on the USB 2 ports.

Guessing that board is Skylake? If so, you're not going to be able to boot 9.3.1 from USB, you have to use a SATA type drive, such as a hard disk, SSD or SATA DOM.

Yeah I have accepted that now. I went ahead and got a PCIE sata card to hook a little harddrive up to it for now. It will just be until 10.x really gets rolling. I was able to get 10 to full start up - it just took an hour or so and needed the dispatcher to report that it failed to start until it would boot further. Nice to see that ver 10.x will have none of these USB/Skylake problems.
