Strange WD10EFAX disk detection problem

Hello,

I am quite new to FreeNAS and set up a system as follows:

- FreeNAS 11.3 running from USB key
- Supermicro X9DR3-F
- Dual Xeon E5-2670 @2,6 GHz
- 64 GB DDR3 ECC RAM
- Dell 0GTP9G (LSI SAS2308 / Arago 9217-8i) HBA in IT mode
- 24port Supermicro BPN-SAS2-846EL1 Expander-Backplane

Disks:
- 4x3TB Seagate SAS drives in RAID-Z1 (working)
- 2x10TB HGST SATA drives (unconfigured)

I intended to add 11 WD RED WD10EFAX 10TB drives as a RAID-Z3 storage pool. Now here's the problem:

- 10 drives show up ok on the Disks page in the GUI
- The 11th drive won't show up. If I swap bays between the no-show and a disk that showed up, the no-show stays a no-show, the other is still visible. So I thought the drive is DOA and ordered a new disk
- But: with the replacement, I have the same problem.
- If I connect the no-show to another computer using a crappy USB-SATA-Adapter, the disk shows up, but with wrong capacity - I blame the USB-SATA-Bridge for that.

I disconnected all but the Seagate disks and the no-show from the backplane and rebooted the server. No change. So even with just 1 WD10EFAX connected, it doesn't show up.

Can anyone point me into a direction? Could this be a drive firmware related issue? I did not manage to find information about how to update firmware on these drives.

I am happy to provide any additional information needed.

Thanks,
Steffen
