One of my pools consists of six 6TB drives in RAIDZ3, so I would expect the pool size to be less than 18TB, but the GUI shows:

26.5TiB (81%) Used; 6.0TiB Available

then below that

12.4TiB (84%) Used; 2.3TiB Available

The overall compression ratio is 1.24x.

When I click on the Alert indicator it shows that the Pool is 81% full.

I am quite willing to believe that the pool is 81% (or even 84%) full, but what to make of the 26.5TiB figure?

P.S. Perhaps I should mention that several months back I renamed this pool (following procedures shown somewhere in these forums -- I forget the details): the original Pool1 was renamed, and what was originally Pool2 was renamed to Pool1, and this latter is the pool whose reported size I am now questioning. Could the renaming have confused FreeNAS?

The first line is the raw capacity--6 x 6 TB = 36 TB ~= 32.4 TiB. Your numbers add up to 32.5 TiB. Exactly as expected.

The second line is the "net" capacity--the capacity after accounting for parity. That would be about 3 x 6 TB, or 18 TB, or 16.2 TiB. Your numbers add up to 14.7 TiB, which is a bit lower, but you have filesystem overhead, reserved space, and other factors which could account for the discrepancy.

All this time using FreeNAS and I never realized that the first figure is the "Gross" capacity (for want of a better term)!

Don't feel bad, it was quietly changed to the current layout in 9.3.

Oh, good! I was beginning to think that I was approaching senility even more quickly than SWMBO says. :)
