Hey folks!

I REALLY appreciate all the advice on the forum in regards to my new server build. I know we are going to love it.

I went ahead and ordered a UPS last night. Looks like it's on the supported list and while I am spending more money than I want - my data is very important to me.

Here is what I bought:
1 x ($139.95) CyberPower PFC Sinewave Series CP1000PFCLCD 1000 V
$139.95

Subtotal: $139.95
Tax: $0.00
Shipping and Handling: $0.00
Total Amount: $139.95

------------------------
If any of you have this unit or have thoughts I would love to hear them. I really picked through I could find in order to choose this one. My freenas box will be the only device connected on this UPS.

I have it. Works great. I really appreciate the LCD display giving input and output power as well as "events". Good choice. What are your hardware specs though just to make sure you will have enough power.

Is that a TX 750 V2? If so, definitely use that one. It's a Seasonic design.

You'll get about 30 minutes of usable battery power with the CP1000 and 6 disks. APC has a calculator on their site, you can check it out just to be sure.

You'll want to go with the 430 or 500 and use the one that is higher energy savings rated.

Excellent - THANK YOU! I really tend to overkill when it comes to stuff like that - most appreciated!

No, no, no, do not use that model, they are known to be lemons.

Noted, I will put Red's in as I can. I already have 6 of these laying around meant for another set of projects - all brand new...so with all the money I have spent already...they will have to do. The plan is to replace 1 each month with a red.

That also sounds pretty awesome about the uptime with battery - this build is getting exciting to say the least!

I can attest to that. Of 12 that we filled a NAS with 1-2 years ago, the majority have thrown errors and been replaced. A few months back I replaced One of them and less than one month later, the new replacement starting throwing errors. And no, its not the environment causing it. Ive seen awful failure rates on Seagates 1.5 and 3GB drives.

Oh I believe it. I will just have to slowly replace mine monthly or bi-monthly - they are what I have to work with right now and hopefully I can get 6 months - a year total as I replace.

Congrats on the UPS purchase.

Wish i could spend similar money for a UPS as that one, but the Aussie dollar is terrible at the moment and impossible to find that model down under.

I don't want to kidnap your thread or anything but If i may ask the following, since we (s1nemesis1s and i) have very much the same build apart from brand names on the hdd's and PSU!

I'm looking at the following below, i would imagine it's part of the same family range at the OP mentioned model but for AU equivalent and slightly higher wattage. Possible overkill too.

The exact model is not on the compatibility list but im sure it would be working of the same driver !?

any feedback is appreciated.

Don't bother preemptively replacing them. Just keep the replacement drives tested, burned-in and ready to go.

It's a better method if you're using RAIDZ2. With RAIDZ1, I could understand preemptive replacements, but I'd rather avoid RAIDZ1 altogether.

Thank you for this advice - it is most appreciated! I was planning on RaidZ2 - I think this should be good - and of course keep a watchful eye.

Do make sure you have your scrubs, SMART tests and reporting emails working properly. That way you'll have enough advanced warning to take action when those drives start going bad.

Thank you! I have saved a long time in order to do this...and I went over budget - but alas - I have NAS...or will.. Good luck on yours. As I learn more and read more I will start being active in the forum and try to give back.

Excellent point, I think a scrub weekly should be solid and it will go straight to my e-mail on my phone

There are some suggestions for scrub, and SMART tests by cyberjock. Search for his posts. He also has a couple of scripts that check the integrity of your config file and backs it up every night.
