Why do you think TRIM isn't supported in FreeBSD? Also, only SLC based drives are recommended for ZILs. Yes, many people use MLC drives and have no problems, but I'd never recommend it for most people. Heck, ZILs don't really help most people either. SLC doesn't need TRIM because there is no erase penalty involved.

I'd have to check, but I'm not sure that Trim is supported until FreeBSD 9.x, so the next major update to FreeNAS 9.1 should have it. We *might* see some 9.1 betas in about 8 weeks...

Correct.

If FreeNAS doesn't support TRIM then how do you prevent performance from taking a dive on your SSD ZIL cache?
