SMB Read performance halved (TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.2)

I am a bit confused.

Since the first days of SCALE, the SMB service has been running without any problems and also very quickly.

Since the last update, my SMB read rate from the server has halved. The write rate to the server, on the other hand, is perfect (approx. 104 MB/s).

Was something changed in the SMB parameters during the last update?

In the 22.02.1 -> 22.02.2 update Samba version was bumped from 4.15.5 to 4.15.7. I don't see anything in particular there that should impact read performance.

Thanks for the hint. Then I'll do some further research into what could be causing the reading rate to deteriorate so much.

what I recognized is that until 22.02.2 SMB option server multi channel support = yes can be used, but since 22.02.2.1 it's default to no, no matter what is mentioned in auxiliary parameters

The current TrueNAS scale version definitely has an SMB read problem!

I've had stable 108 MB/s reading and writing for years (Core and Scale). Since the last two updates, READ performance has dropped by 30%. I used both my internal Broadcom network adapters and today a brand new Intel MT1000 adapter in the PCI slot.

The results are absolutely identical! The read performance is around 70 MB/s.

The error can only be in the SMB protocol

@defcon999 Did you ever get this solved? I am experiencing the exact same issue. Am currently on 22.12.0 Bluefin release and my read speeds max out around 89MB/s when transferring a file from my NAS to my Windows 11 PC over gigabit ethernet. Write speeds are fine however, consistent around 114MB/s from my PC to the NAS. Read speeds used to be the same so something is causing this read slowdown.

Has there been any Jira tickets logged for this if it's an issue with TrueNAS scale or a Samba update if the slowdown was introduced with the new Samba version?

If the latter I see that 22.12.0 is using Samba 4.17.2, so not sure if the issue is with Samba itself or TrueNAS Scale's current implementation.?

Sorry for my late reply.

I reinstalled TrueNAS once and the problems have been gone ever since. So I can't say exactly what caused it
