SMART not recognizing your drives or using the wrong options? Remember to try updating the drive database.

You may have to download the latest & greatest drive database using "/usr/local/sbin/update-smart-drivedb --trunk --no-verify". This got SMART working for me with a JMicron USB3->SATA adapter for my boot drive that wasn't recognized in 11.3-U2.1.
