The real news is RDIMM support. Suddenly, Xeon E3 makes a lot more sense for medium-sized servers, where Xeon E5 is overkill. It also pushes Xeon-D firmly into the low-power niche.

Wonder when Intel will relabel the Avotons to Xeon C ;)

Apart from Plex powerhouses and systems with multiple HBAs (45drives.com chassis) the E3 series should be able to serve most FreeNAS users then.
