I need to share a FreeNAS directory containing CrashPlan backups with the CrashPlan application running in a iohyve/bhyve VM.

I tried to using an NFS share but can't get it to work.

I see that FreeNAS supports the following file sharing protocols:
  • Apple (AFP)
  • Unix (NFS)
  • WebDAV
  • Windows (CIFS)
  • Block (iSCSI)
Is any of these protocols more appropriate than the others for sharing with a Ubuntu client in a VM?

NFS is the appropriate way to share the system. Looking at your other thread, it looks like a permissions issue. I've got some comments for you there.

I would make it a priority to get NFS working, because that's the "right" way to do what you're trying to do.
