hi All,
hoping to find you all well.
I have 2 users :
- one created to make backups from my production server on TrueNas,
- one for my "family" data,
As for backup from my production server to TrueNas everything is ok,
my backup user has been configured with his private key and I can work fine with both rsync and sftp.
The PROBLEM is that I don't arrive, from my desktop, to share the backups data,
as, my local user enters, via share, in his space with full rights,
while, in the backup user's space, I only managed to enter read for a few hours and now I can't even browse his space despite the share being active,
I also tried to create a group where I entered both my 2 users local and backup, but when I set the share target I can no longer log from my production server because it can no longer verify the key that is set on the backup user.
What I have to do, from my desktop, to enter ALSO and with FULL privilege on my backup share ?
Thank you

I'm not sure I really understand the problem you're trying to describe.

You are connecting to 2 different shares on your TrueNAS server from one PC?

You want to connect to the backup share as the backup user and the family share as some other user?

Are both of the shares SMB? (Windows usually doesn't like having multiple mappings to the same server under different users in the same session).

Could you do your backups over NFS and have the user connect over SMB?

Hi sretalla,

this was what I seemed to have understood in these last days of tests...
Could you do your backups over NFS and have the user connect over SMB?
as ? if this were a possible solution I'm interested, could you explain a little more detail ?
thx

Make an NFS share on TrueNAS and set the mapall user to backup:

Access that share:
