Am very new to TrueNAS, bear w me.

I am trying to set up remote logging for TrueNAs as my TrueNAS keeps crashing. My installation is on a VMware workstation virtual machine configured with one 300GB disk. I have syslog-ng set up on a CentOS 8.3 machine, I disabled rsyslog in CentOS. In TrueNAs under System\System Dataset I have unchecked the box Syslog. Under System\Advanced under System Use FQDN is unchecked, Syslog Level is Error, Syslog Transport is UDP (that's what I set syslog-ng for).

Am I set up correctly? Just need some way to troubleshoot these crashes.

May I ask why you want to put that level of effort into this? The setup is not suitable for data that are important.

As to your question? Why don't you give it a try?

I was under the impression that logs will not persist on a reboot and my system is crashing. Plus it gives me remote syllogism experience. I won’t know what is causing the crashes if I don’t have persistent logs.
