Hey Guy's,

I want to show you a cheap variant of a powerful NAS
I finished a few weeks before:

CPU: Intel Celeron G540 ~40€

IMG_0741.JPG

Mainboard: ASRock H77 Pro4-M (mATX) ~80€
+ 4 RAM Slots to support 32GB Ram
+ 4x Sata III & 4x Sata II

RAM: 2x 4Gb 1333MHz DDR3 ADATA ~35€
(the cpu supports only 1066 but 1333 is cheaper ;) )

HDD: I bought 2x 2TB Western Digital Caviar Green, but I rekommended the Caviar Red because they are specially designed for a NAS (Green= ~100€ 2 years warranty; Red= ~120€ 3 years warranty)
(I unfortunately discovered it only too late)

Powersupply: a normal 350 Watt power unit
(still found in the basement)

80 Watt picoPSU (~ 30€) would have been better but I saved the money :D

Case: I built my own box
in my case it's a cube of aluminum
(300mm x 300mm x 300mm)

OS: I use FreeNAS 8.3.0 BETA 2 with minidlna on a 8GB USB Stick and it works perfekt
about 100MB/s read and write
ZFS Filesystem and NO raid
because I bought only 2 HDD´s

power consumption: 40 Watt because of the old power supply

For people who don´t have the opportunity to build a housing itself, I recommend the Lian Li PC-V354B (~ 130€)

+ 7x 3.5" bays
+ 245x320x420mm
+ design

optional -> soundproof Version of this case (~ 170€)
