Scale won’t boot off NVME drive

I have an old z400 workstation I converted to scale. When I install scale I see the NVME drive but after the installation it will not boot from that drive. Since this is an older board I am using a NVME to PCIe adapter. Also I can see the drive and create a pool in scale UI when I use my old hard drive as a test boot drive. Any suggestions?

I think that hardware is old enough that nvme boot wouldn't be supported by the bios. Yes you can see the drive in the installer because the kernel loaded a generic nvme driver.
