Hey guys,

I've done some research and I've decided that I want to build my first freenas box and I want it to be upgradable in terms of storage. I have two questions.
1: Is this a good build. If not, what can I change
2: Is the build beefy enough for deduplication? I am very interested in deduplication but after reading on it, I am also very scared of it

Here is my parts list https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9Tqwpb

I will take any and all advice! Thank you!

That's not even close to enough RAM to enable de-duplication. And I really doubt that you'll find it worth the effort.

How much ram should I need for 5x1TB in raidz? I've always heard anywhere from 1-1.5 GB of ram per TB of storage

1tb have a bad price per /gb.
You would be better use 2-4tb drives.
Fe 4 hdds in raidz2.
I would not recommend raidz1.
Gives you double the space of your 5x1tb for far less $/gb and you don't need dedup.
