SATADOM interfaces available?

Hi,
I wonder if there are any external SATADOM interfaces available? I've been looking and the closest thing I could find is this set of contraptions. When I plug that interface into my external SATA dock, the dock shuts down, suggesting a electrical issue. So, what's the best way to program a SATADOM other than inside the server? Are there any external USB-based solutions available that make the job easier? I'd love to be able to clone my extant SATADOM...

Not quite but thank you so much for responding! I bought this item as a potential mirror to my existing SATADOM. This is the unit that I'm looking an external interface for. Perhaps it doesn't exist...

• I had that exact SATADOM and it was great.
• You can't use that dock to power a SATADOM, thus the problem. You need a gold port on a SMCI X10+ board or external power adapter that either plugs into a dedicated "port" on the mobo, or otherwise an adapter that converts to a big-4 pin Molex. Man that tiny cable was a PITA.

  • Provided you find the right power adapter (shouldn't be tough), it should be as simple as plugging a sata cable into the SATADOM to access. No different than any other drive (just different power delivery).
  • Find a cheap alternative to this guy https://www.amazon.com/Supermicro-CBL-CDAT-0597-SATADOM-Power-Cable/dp/B00OU422IU/ and that's your ticket.
• The first link was broken, which makes me curious as to what it is.

Hi, the link has been fixed, apologies! Thanks for the description, I was able to find a version of that cable on the US version of Amazon for reasonable money.

I too have that exact 64GB SATA DOM from Supermicro, (plus a 32GB in my FreeNAS Mini). Both work great for mirroring the OS and my home directory. And those cables work too, both in my desktop and FreeNAS Mini.

You can find cheaper SATA DOMs, but they also tend to be lower performance. Or lower endurance. I went with the Supermicro ones since I wanted them to last for years and be similar speed to it's partner mirror.

No worries (of course!). In my very brief search for the power connector I came across the product in the amended link. But taking a look at the link, and with a fresh pair of eyes, I wanted to call something out regarding the SATA data cable ... (which I'm second guessing myself on as you said you plugged your SATADOM into your dock) ... but, wouldn't the following be correct?

• Motherboard & Drive SATA Connectors = MALE SATA
• Typical SATA data cable = FEMALE to FEMALE
• But since the SATADOM plugs directly into Motherboard = FEMALE

So you need a SATA data cable with FEMALE on one end and MALE on the other: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008635ATO/ref=psdc_3015394011_t1_B003WFBFZY (example only, I'll let you cost optimize). Right?

I call that out as I have dozens of FEMALE TO FEMALE SATA cables laying around, but not a single MALE to FEMALE (If my assumption is correct, this is something I would have overlooked, received the power adapter in the mail, been ready to go and then bummed => so figured it was worth mentioning).
