First of all (since this is my first post): hello everybody =)!

Now to my problem: after I updated to 11.2 all of my Samba shares stopped working. This wasn't all that surprising after a brief look at the service list, SMB was disabled! What actually surprised me can be seen in the following screenshot:

Strange, the file disappeared into some kind of digital nirvana! Trying to generate a new one gave me this unappealing sight:

Any ideas? I'm still fairly new to FreeNas, so I might have overlooked something important =/

It looks like the freenas kernel module isn't loaded up correctly. Quick fix may be to roll back to the previous boot environment and redo the update.

If you want to investigate further you can grep through /var/log/messages for the freenas_sysctl modules being loaded.
Code:
root@S49112TM[~]# grep sysctl /var/log/messages
Dec 13 03:55:08 freenas freenas_sysctl: adding account.
Dec 13 03:55:08 freenas freenas_sysctl: adding directoryservice.
Dec 13 03:55:08 freenas freenas_sysctl: adding middlewared.
Dec 13 03:55:08 freenas freenas_sysctl: adding network.
Dec 13 03:55:08 freenas freenas_sysctl: adding services.

We are moving away from the custom kernel module for samba configuration in 11.3.

Thanks for your fast feedback!

As a precaution I removed all of my configured Samba shares and restarted the server. Afterwards the logs gave me this:

Strangely enough, everythings seems to be alright? The Samba server started properly:

A false alarm? I'm just happy it's working now, but still...what might have caused this?
