Built a new server primarily for the use of being a media server. Put all the hardware together and successfully install FreeNAS 11.1-U2. I went ahead and created a "collection" ZVOL as well as a "movies" ZVOL within. i researched the best method of transferring the files over (2.7 TB) and RSYNC seemed to be the winner.... I set up RSYNC module and RSYNC task on the server (old freenas) and just the RSYNC task on the client (new freenas). left the settings at default for both sides...with exception of preserve permissions. that i checked marked.

Once RSYBC completed... 20hrs later.. i made sure that the permissions were identical on both systems user:Media group:Media..

installed EMBY, assigned folders and IP address and started plugin in.

got into web interface to configure EMBY and set up folder to point to path of collection and destination as /media.

when i go to refresh nothing happens and below is the LOG from start to end...

Question to the masses.....

Why would a plugin like EMBY view a folder in a zvol differently than a directory created in that same zvol by windows? the above post is the example....

I have finally been able to get my media to be seen by Emby. in order to get it to appear to Emby, i went through the following steps on the new FreeNAS server:

1. Create collection zvol
2. Share collection has a SMB share
3. Enter the SMB share in windows 'movies'
4. Rsync from old FreeNAS 'movies' to new FreeNAS 'movies'
5. Once completed, went into jail and looked into media folder within jail and now the movies folder had my movies
6. Scan folder in Emby and they showed up.....

Again, only difference in my last attempt was the creation of the movies folder. previous method was creating the 'movies' folder as a zvol...

This could be an issue more for Emby than FreeNAS, which i am already working down that road on their forum.....

Problem resolved by previous method of creating folders within the collection zvol..... No answers as to why they would give you two different results when adding to EMBY...

A zvol, although it appears as a folder on the FreeNAS server, is not a folder that you can share, it is a container that you can put folders in.

Let me restate myself... The 'collection' was set up as a dataset.... I know the devil is in the details...

With that being said...

Intially set up collection as a dataset with movies has a dataset within.... copied movies over, but EMBY world not add

Finally set up collection as a dataset with movies as a SMB share within from windows... copied movies over, and EMBY can add movies...

sorry for the confusion.... :-(
