SOLVED rsync error between FreeNAS and QNAP

I have a MicroServer N54L running FreeNAS-9.2.1.8-RELEASE-x64 (e625626) with 16GB RAM. I used to have a QNAP TS-451 and had rsync working fine between the 2 machines. I recently migrated from the TS-451 to a TS-653 Pro. QNAP migration keeps the configuration intact and the QNAP works as expected.

However, rsync is now broken and I can't work out why. The error in the logs are:

I've double checked the password on both machines, even reset it on the QNAP again but still can't rsync??

Did the auth mechanism change in the Pro version?

Don't think so. I managed to get it all working again though. Re-entered credentials on both, did a few reboots and whatever was causing the issue seems to have gone.
