Hi,

I am new to FreeNAS. I have a FreeNAS Mini XL and a 12 bays Supermicro FreeNAS server. Both were bought from iXsystem. Last week I was trying to login to the Supermicro FreeNAS server. The root password doesn't work anymore. I am 100% sure my root password is correct and wasn't changed. Is there anywhere I can look for the system logs to see when/why the root password changed? Both FreeNAS servers upgraded to version 11.2.

Any help is appreciated!!!!

From what I know, there is no log entry generated when a password is changed.
If someone has physical access to the local console, there is a change password option on that menu which would allow someone with physical access to change the root password. Normally the system should be kept in a location where others that have access to that location are trusted. It is also not good practice to expose the system to the internet where it might be hacked by random bad actors.
