Hi All

I have been using option 7 from the boot menu to change the root / web gui password but it never changes.

Can you advise as to how i should change the web gui root password for Freenas 9.3

Thanks

If you don't have access to the system via SSH or webGUI, there's not much else you can do.

That said, you should strongly consider updating to a newer version. 9.3 is positively ancient.

I can access the system Ok with the current root password but I am selling the NAS unit to a friend. I don't want to pass on my password to him as it's personal and I use it for my mail account etc. I just need to change the Web GUI root password for the NAS server.

What's keeping you from just editing the root user and changing its password?

My system does not show any Groups or Users as per the manual. How very odd. Both screens are blank. Should I create a new user as 'root' ?

Definitely don't do that, it can't end well.

Honestly, nuke whatever data you're going to nuke and reinstall a recent version of FreeNAS/TrueNAS. Don't import the old config file.
