Hi we use the GUI to turn off the LDAP service but what is the equivalent shell command.

From what I can see it should be something like this :

# service smbd stop
# service nmbd stop
# service smbd start
# service nmbd start

But these commands don’t work. Does anybody know the actual commands ?

Thanks,

Kam

You shouldn't be stopping and starting services from the CLI... at all. You are asking for trouble doing that....

We need to restart it surely we can safely issue the commands on the command shell? The GUI cant be the only way to administer services such as LDAP.

It's not the only way, but it's the only smart way... the WebGUI does things behind the scenes that may or may not be necessary. What you are trying to do is unsupported and definitely not recommended.
