Hi. I am in the boot status screen, I select the boot drive, hit replace, select the newly added USB drive and nothing seems to happen. It says the drive is being replaced but in status it still shows the old HDD.

Any ideas what could be happening?

Yep.

pool: freenas-boot
state: ONLINE
scan: none requested
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
freenas-boot ONLINE 0 0 0
ada0p2 ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors

Bunch of bad sectors though thats why I want to replace it with a USB. HDD was an old 500GB HDD, new USB is a 16GB

You will not be able to replace a 500 GB device with a 16 GB device. Instead, download a copy of your config file, do a fresh install to the USB stick, upload the config to the new installation. Done.

Right. I thought I'd mention that because I did see something on the wiki about mirroring drives needing to be the same or bigger. OK thanks

Ok I am running into issues.

First of all 11.1 installer wouldnt boot at all. Tried re downloading and rewriting with win32 4 or 5 times.

I downloaded 9.10.2, wrote that to a USB and booted up and installed no problem.

After finishing the install I rebooted the system and the PC wont post while the new OS USB is plugged in, in any port.

Tried reinstalling 3 times (to reinstall I had to plug in the OS USB after getting to the install screen) but still wont post with the drive installed.

Any ideas?

My system is a little dated, but does the job.
