I’m beginner and I’m afraid that I’ll do something wrong and lose all my data. Please advise me how to proceed.

I have FreeNAS 9.2. installed on 4GB USB drive. I would like to upgrade to FreeNAS 9.3 on 8GB USB drive.

My first plan was to install FreeNAS 9.3 on 8GB drive, import ZFS pool and make new users, shares and other settings. But then I started to think what if my new users and shares won’t work as expected?

My question if I export all necessary config files from 9.2 and import them to 9.3 is this as good as making them from scratch?

How to export ZFS pool and latter on import it to newly installed FreeNAS?

Thank for help.

Go to the web GUI of your current installation, download the config database, install 9.3 to the new drive, boot from the new drive, upload the database. That's it. Your pool, users, shares, jails, etc. will carry forward.
