Hello Forum

I (the admin) would like to grant some of the normal-users read-only-access to one of my folders (with several subfolders and several thousands files).

Question:
Can that be done on the FreeNAS console itself or from a client which mounted(drive letter) the FreeNAS box?

Thank you very much for evey help!

Joe

PS
I am new to FreeNAS and do not yet own a FreeNAS-box

You would make those changes with several settings through the GUI, web interface. If you were able to make the needed changes by way of a SSH connection and command line changes, those changes might not survive rebooting the system. Changes that are meant to be persistent must be recorded in the configuration database and that is updated by the GUI.

PS. There are some persistent changes that can be made from the command line, but not all changes made there, even editing a config file, will be persistent as some configuration files are regenerated during boot based on the settings in the database.

Thank you for the feedback! But how does granting access other users to my folder
work within the FreeNAS GUI?

Thank you very much!

Joe
