Hello all,

I am trying to install FreeNAS on a Dell C2100 I picked up recently. I have installed FreeNAS in a VM for testing and on an I5 once. I tried installing FreeNAS on my C2100 but ran into this message: Read failed unable to load kernel

I have tried:
Multiple USB hubs
Multiple brands of flash drives (8GB to 16GB)
FreeNAS versions: 9.3, 9.2.9, 9.2.1
(tried downloading each at least twice)
Both USB ports built into the server
Used Unetbootin and MagicISO
Tried changing the USB emulation to CDROM and then HDD for the install drive
Multiple reboots

....but I still get the same message. Any ideas?

I don't think that Win32 Disk Imager works. After changing from *.img to *.* and writing the image I see the storage on my HP flash drive changed from ~16GB to 381MB. When I click on the drive to check that the files are there, I get a message saying the drive must be formatted before use.

Not sure what I'm missing here =\

The flash drives I have used so far I have formatted to fat32 if that makes any difference.

*******Ah, I posted too soon. It does work - thanks for the help.

It works, I've used it :)

You write an image to a drive, it's normal that at the end it's not partitioned anymore (or at least not Windows recognisable partitioned). It's also normal that it the size it's correctly displayed. Actually it's the used space that is displayed.

So, once you've written the image, don't bother with Windows things anymore and boot on it ;)
