I am planning to re-purpose one 4 T HDD from iSCSI to CIFS. The iSCSI is used for vSphere 6.5 datastore, currently I am exporting data to other drives. Just wonder how many different options would be possible to achieve what I target for?
Option 1
- destroy the zvol and the vol for the iSCSI, re-create a new vol and implement CIFS on top
- Does it require a format of the HDD and how ?
Option 2
- detach the vol and set it as fill the drive with zero and create new vol with the new drive
- Is zeroing the hard drive good enough or I need to use third-party tool to format the drive?
- If third-party tool is optimal way, what would be the best tool here?
Thanks a lot for helping.
