Ok I ma getting closer to getting all the materials I need for my NAS (Have 4x 8tb Shuckable WD easy drives with red serials).

I looked up raid solutions a little while ago and I can't remember if things changed or not. My NAS will be for media and pics (Pics will have extra backup). So it's not critical but I like the fail safe of raid.

Quesiton is is Riad 5 good? Looks like I get a little over 20tb with that. For some reason I thought I saw my storage would be around 15tb after raid? Am I missing something?

Depends on your risk tolerance. Personally i wouldnt be comfortable with just one drive redundacy but thats just me.

Raid5 is not really viable anymore. If your hard drives are larger then 1TB your asking for heartache with Raid5. You can do a quick Google search and find out why. Anyway I would recommend Raid Z2 or Mirror VDEV's with 4 drives. With Raid Z2 or Mirrors your storage space would be close to 15TB.
