Hello there, today I received two 6TB Seagate IronWolf drives to complete my FreeNAS build. I am repurposing the Dell R710 LFF for this project.
The system specifications for the R710:
- 2x Intel Xeon x5570 processors
- 16GB of DDR3 ECC ram, I believe 1333MHz
- Perc6i RAID controller
I thought everything would work out fine but I realized that a on-board RAID controller will not work out so good with FreeNAS and after doing some more research, I needed a controller, flashed in IT mode, for FreeNAS to have direct access to the drives. More research led me to
this which I would replace with my Perc6i controller and
these cables. My question is, to confirm, will these replacement parts work for a FreeNAS setup and support the two 6TB drives?
