Dell r710 inbound to do my build with.
Going to go ahead and give the new FreeNAS 11 a shot.

This server comes with the PERC6i and I understand from reading it does not have a JBOD mode.
I also read you "can" potentially just setup each disk as a virtual disk with raid 0 and that "should" work.

However... "can" and "should" are not very good for making decisions.

Is this as good as real JBOD or could this cause unforeseen issues?

Edit: I may also be in trouble as I think I just found the PERC6i not to support disks as large as mine (8TB WD RED)... so that is not an option anyways.
I hope to find 6x SATA ports on the Mobo if not I'll look up buying one of the recommended HBA's

So that sort of changes the question to... What HBA is a good fit for the r710 that will work with its existing backplane and plug right in to support 6x8TB drives.

When looking for my setup I found great information about HBA here.
https://www.servethehome.com/buyers...s-freenas-nas-servers/top-picks-freenas-hbas/

Clearly not an expert but I think 2TB limit apply to SAS 1. So if your backplane is SAS1... You might also have a backplane that does not support SATA...
Also you should check what kind of connector your backplane uses. It might be sff 8484
when SAS2/SAS3 card are 8087/8643

Just picked up a Dell PERC H200 should do the job.
Can flash over to the LSI 9211-8i firmware, but also maybe the newest dell firmware updates it to JBOD mode and 8TB support.
