hello - this my first attempt at freenas so please keep the answers simple

i just installed 3.2 to my flash drive and plugged my 4x3tb hdd into the m/b (sata3). i created a raidz2 and shared it with cifs (i couldn't get nfs to work) - when i transferred some files i was averaging 20-40 mbs. i was expecting double this, is this normal?

i thought it may be because i was using cifs - i read that nfs is faster.

i was able to share with nfs but when i mounted with windows it crashed freenas - this is a known bug. i have now upgraded to 3.3 beta 2 and i can now mount with windows.

i still have 4x3tb sharing with cifs but i also have 3x1tb (2 on m/b sata3 one on an old 3ware 3506 raid card sata1) sharing with nfs.

i don't want to do anything dangerous with 4x3tb but can experiment with 3x1tb.

when i transfered files to 3x1tb (nfs) it was amazingly slow - almost unusable. i went into freenas and there was an alert saying the volumes were degraded because i needed to upgrade the zfs and there is no going back.

is my speed on the nfs affected by the degrading? the cifs is at the same speed it was prior to me upgrading freenas!

can i upgrade a single volume to the latest zfs?

what transfer speeds (cifs/nfs) should i get for my setup?

i am using freenas as a home media server - 4 or maybe 5 concurrent users

thank you
