I have installed FreeNas 9.3 successfully on my new server so the next job was to copy across to my movies data
set 1TB of movies. Each of the movies is enclosed in a sub-directory that has the title and year that the movie was re-least. I had thought that the easiest way to do this would be to use the import function within FreeNas.
I installed a hard drive into the server then went into storage and clicked on the import button. I found the drive then listed that path and specified that the drive had been formatted in NTFS.
The system went away and did its thing however when I checked the mapped drive to the movies data set the only thing that was copied was the sub-directories and not the movies them self.
I then removed the drive and installed it into a workstation and using the map location to the movies data set moved the movies across to the server. Which of course worked well!
My question is why did the import function not work?

Interesting... I have not used that function/option, but per the manual it sounds like it should work as you were trying. Will watch this thread to see what the outcome is or if a bug needs to be reported.

The only thing I can think of is a permissions issue? People use the NTFS import with no problems.

I was saying, a permissions issue **ON THE NTFS** filesystem.

I checked this out and you appear correct, under Windows 7 my user name has full rights however with the user referring to the mapped location there was only read writes given.
I have changed that now to full rights and will test it later when my server has a down period.
Thank you for the reply!

Yes, sir, I should have been more clear that I meant the NTFS filesystem.

I'll be very curious to learn if this was the problem.
