New to freenas.
I was hoping someone could help point me in the correct direction.
I will be using freenas as a media server with plex.
I already have the Hard Drives I want to use in my windows 10 ccomputer. Those drives are full of my movies, music, pictures, etc.
How do i set freenas to use those drives without formating the drive when i install it into the freenas computer system?
Is there instructions or videos on how to set it up? I do not want to loose the data when i move the drive over.

Thanks
Paul

Welcome to the forum!

Simple answer is that you can't do what you would like to do.. FreeNAS uses the ZFS file system and will reformat the data-pool HDD's appropriately to support it.

What can be done is that the data from NTFS-formatted disks can be imported in FreeNAS to an existing dataset - see https://www.ixsystems.com/documentation/freenas/11.3-U4/storage.html#importing-a-disk for details on that process. To use it you need a FreeNAS system with a datapool large enough to accept the data to be imported.

The alternative to the import, since in your situation you apparently need additional drives for your FreeNAS box, is to transfer the data from the W10 PC to the FreeNAS box over the network connection into the data locations already prepared by the Plex install on FreeNAS.
