My Netgear Stora enables my to switch it off at night and have it switch back on in the morning 7 days a week, can this be done with my new freenas server?

Depends on your bios options. The software installed on a PC cannot control a bootup procedure. In the os you could create a cron job that shuts it down nightly, but your bios has top have the ability to turn itself on automatically

I'm just using a basic AMD mini itx so my bios is pretty sparse compared to others. Tbh, If I could have it switch off at an evening would be a big bonus as I don't mind manually switching it back on. Does a cron job require knowing your command prompts? If so I will have to refresh my memory of them asap.
