hi folks,

i set up a freenas server recently. but when i shutdown the machine, everything (including cpu fan) will turn off, but not the fan of the power supply. i have to switch off the power supply manually for a real shutdown.

i've never seen that anywhere. is that a freenas / driver issue or just some bios problem?

system infos:

freenas version: FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE-201606270534 (dd17351)
cpu: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2300 CPU @ 2.80GHz
ram: 8 gb DDR3
mainboard: AsRock H61M-DGS, socket 1155, intel H61 chipset, UEFI-BIOS
sata-controller2: InLine 76617E with marvell 88SE9215 chipset
graphics: onboard
acpi: deactivated

in none of the logs in /var/logs is something interesting at the end of the shutdown process.

any help is very appreciated :) i don't trust this situation as i don't know, what und where current is still running when it is "shut down".

Can you specify the make and model of power supply please?

Some PSU's will not shut down if there is anything drawing power from it directly. Is there another system hooked up to it as well?
Maybe you have case fans hooked up via Molex cable?

Just thinking out loud....

thanks for your reply..

it's an "Enermax EMP600AGT" 600W power supply. and yes, i have a few extra case fans running. but they don't run, once the system has been "shut down". very strange.
and no other external system is attached to the power supply.

It could be an exhaust fan to prevent the PSU from overheating after the system shuts down. If you wait a while, does it stop running?

you were right, nick :) it's embarrassing, but true :)

i never had the courage to wait a few mins because i feared, my hdd get toasted. but after a few mins, the fan suddenly stops.

thanks again for all your answers.
