What version were you on before?

If I were doing a new install, I would choose FreeNAS 11.1-U7
https://download.freenas.org/11/latest/x64/FreeNAS-11.1-U7.iso
Most of the guides that exist right now are designed for the User Interface (UI) represented in that version and it runs stable with few bugs and does all the things I want out of a NAS.

The newer version https://download.freenas.org/11.2/STABLE/U2/x64/FreeNAS-11.2-U2.iso
Well, to be kind, there are some issues with it at the moment. Many growing pains around the release of the new UI and the new middleware that allows for the new UI. It is almost a total rewrite, despite what the version numbers might otherwise indicate.

I believe I have been on that version and all the way up to the latest. I'm at work right now so I'm not 100% positive.

If you upgraded your pool, you may not be able to go back to a previous version of FreeNAS. It depends on exactly what your system state is.

Ooohhhh well that's not good. If that's the case I have to stay with the latest version if I want to keep all of my data on them ? Also how can I tell ?

Well it all depends what you need. What services do you want to run?

To view the status of Feature Flags on a pool, use zpool get all <poolname> | grep feature and it will give you a list of the features that exist and whether or not they are enabled or active.
If the last two features in that list are:
  • skein
  • sha512
It tells you that the pool has not been upgraded, but if they are:
  • Device removal
  • Obsolete counts
  • Zpool checkpoint
That tells you the pool has been upgraded. It used to require going to the terminal and typing a command but since it is in the GUI now, a lot more people have probably upgraded.

This mite be the best news so far. Checked both the pools and the last two are
sha512
skein
So does that mean I can do a fresh install of 11.1U7 ? Also will the fresh install know the pools? I Don't want lose the files. I just did a factory reset and still having the same problems.
