Hi everyone! Booting to a USB drive, I have gone through the Fresh install for the newest version of Freenas with no issues or errors. Upon reboot, there are no errors, but Freenas skips the hard drive and tries to network boot.

In preparation for the Freenas install I have:
1. P420 RAID card set for HBA mode
2. SSD drive is at the top of the boot order list

Troubleshooting:
1. I tried the previous version of Freenas with the same results.
2. I have tried the SSD hard drive in different bays with no luck
3. I defaulted the BIOS, and then went back in and put the SSD drive to the top of the boot order list, but still nothing.

I am at a lost right now and just wondering if I missed a step somewhere. My setup is in my signature. I have booted to the HP SPP for the Gen8 and applied all of newest firmware updates available.

No, you can't. Throw that hardware RAID card on eBay and sell it for what you can get and buy a proper SAS HBA so the system can work the way it should.

Connect this to a SATA port. The hot-swap bays are most likely connected to the SAS controller and won't be able to be used as boot drives.
