A ways back we tried to sneak ZFS volume encryption in to FreeNAS 8.3.0-RELEASE, and that didn't really work out.
However, things are shaping up nicely and we are getting ready to push the first beta of 8.3.1 out.
So here's my warning to the FreeNAS community:
When encryption goes wrong it goes really wrong. It generally takes your data with it. Please please please for the love of everything pure and holy do NOT store anything important on the forthcoming 8.3.1-BETA1
In the words of a prominent ZFS developer, 'This may harm your teddy bear and eat your cookie."
