Poor Pool Speed (Only Accessing 4 Drives Out Of 16)

Interesting thought on weight.

My scale wasn't expensive and can only weigh in 0.2oz increments. It appears that the new and old drives are the same weight. (I stacked 4 of each at a time to compare.)

There is a possibility that the vendor changed controller chips or flash chips, but kept the same model. Won't be the first time this has happened, and won't be the first time that type of change has caused problems.

So, even if you get replacements, test them before putting them in production.

That was my thought as well that there was a hardware change or hopefully just firmware.

I hate to think that anything had changed as one of the factors in me picking these drives is they still used TLC NAND Flash chips which should have given really good write endurance characteristics.

SITREP...

I emailed SiliconPower but never got a response. As I am unwilling to take a hit with all the bad drives I asked for a refund from NewEgg so the bad drives are on their way back. I kept the four that worked.
