Hi. I'm new to FreeNAS and trying to learn. I've installed Plex and got everything to work when i put the movies in my movie folder to show up but Plex won't play the files for some reason. There is no error or anything it's just loading forever and never starts playing. I'm running wide open permissions on everything to start with and get things working but maybe i missed something that i have to do?

FreeNAS version: FreeNAS-11.2-U2.1
Plex version: 1.14.1.5488 (In jails it says 11.2-RELEASE-p8)

Thanks for any help
Max

What’s the layout? Where is plex installed? What access does plex have to your media?
Are you direct playing or transcoding? What clients are you trying to play with? And where is plex transcoding location?

Also, as stated, please provide hardware specifications according to the rules

I've got I to work before on this computer so the computer should capable of handling everything. But the I did a fresh install of everything because the first time I messed around so much with all the settings.

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2300 CPU @ 2.80GHz (4 cores)
RAM: 8gb (think it's Corsair)
HDD: 3TB WD RED (4 drives)

Not the most beautiful file structure maybe with NAS/NAS but i'm learning. I hope this helps. Permissions everywhere are wide open.
To my knowledge the FreeNAS server is doing everything with transcoding but i'm very new to this so not 100% sure.

Trying to access everything trough:
Mac mini 2012 (2,5GHz Intel i5, 16GB ram, 250gb Samsung Evo SSD) running Mojave (10.14.3)
Chrome Version 72.0.3626.121

FreeNAS:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2300 CPU @ 2.80GHz (4 cores)
RAM: 8gb (think it's Corsair)
HDD: 3TB WD RED (4 drives)

Update: Added some music and it had no problem with that so it seams like it's just the video playback thats the problem

Looks like your next inquiry for help should best be on the Plex help site.

Ya, FreeNAS looks fine. Go to plex forum and start digging through logs

Thanks everyone for trying to help me! I manage to solve it!

My solution if anyone else has the same problem:
The problem was static IP. Not sure why but that's a problem for another day. I've had the plex jail set to an static IP and now I switched to Dynamic IPv4 and everything works so it looks like i might have some popcorn and a movie tonight :)

I was having the same problem and that fixed it for me too. Doesn't make any sense as to why that would cause an issue, but I'm happy that it is fixed.
Thanks :)

This was my issue too. Music played but not movies. Switched to DHCP and all works.

Thanks for the info! Bizarre fix, but changing from a static/manual IP to DHCP (with address reservation on my router, so effectively static) also worked for me.

Anyone have any ideas as to why that would matter? Seems like it really shouldn't...
