Most likely a permissions error. Does it only fail when it needs to transcode or also when it is direct play?

What are your permissions and directory setup?

You are right, there was an issue with the subtitle used.
I`m using filezilla in order to upload subtitles.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2.6G Jan 25 23:22 Movie.Name.2018.mp4
-rw------- 1 root wheel 104K Jan 25 23:28 Movie.Name.2018.srt

Fixed the permissions on subtitle and everything works fine.

Thanks!

Hi All, I’m experiencing this issue also, “Conversion failed. the transcoder exited due to an error” however I’m using FreeNAS-11.2-U3 with PMS 1.12.2.4929-amd64. The error is displayed on my Sony TV so its not a Windows related problem. This is pretty much my first issue with using Freenas for the past 6 yrs, but my skill set with Freenas is basically zero. Any help on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you in advance,
Jason

Hi Jason,

Check the permissions on folder/files that are being used by the Plex.

Hi Robert,
Thank you for your quick reply and recommendation however, my skillset is basically zero with this OS, is there a video I can follow to show me how to check the permissions and what they should be?

Thanks again,
Jason

Hi Jason,

Using an FTP client like Filezilla should help you out checking the permission.

Also, if you use Shell from FreeNAS, you can use different unix commands like:
cd /folder/path/with/problem/
ls -ltr

Then you can use google and see what the output shows and try to remediate it.

Thanks,
Robert
